Raspberry Pi 3 B+ Case review

Chuck
December 21, 2017
Color: Single Layer|Verified Purchase
I ordered this because I wanted the open type case so more air could circulate. This case allows it to do just that with the fan helping to move the air over the board. It looks really nice with my pi in it as you can see in the pictures.

I am only giving it four stars (Amazon doesn't allow 4.5 stars) because one of the nuts was missing from my kit. Its not a big deal, but the fact that I did get two extra pieces, 1 mini screw for holding the leg which you mount the pi on and one of the rounded nut for the top of the case kinda miffed me. The missing nut is one of the four that hold the board onto leg that uses the mini screw to attach to the bottom case part. I am sure I have one of those nuts around here somewhere that I can put on it later.

I also wish they would move the hole mounts for the fan so it is centered a bit more over the CPU heat sink. You can see how off centered it is in my pic. Its not a deal breaker for me because with the case being as small as it is, I am sure the fan will help keep it cooler regardless of where the fan is centered.

The fan runs quiet enough for me and seems to keep the temps down while I am running Emulation Station.

Over all, this is a really nice case and I am sure you will love it as much as I do.

Update 1/28/18

I am editing this review down to three stars. I ordered this on 12/16/17 and yesterday, when I started my Pi 3 up, the fan was having problems starting up. It would try to spin while making some funky noise. It did this for about one minute then finally worked. It wasn't right, but it was spinning. I'm not sure if this fan has any bearings in it, but it is now making a whining noise while I have it on.

If the fan only lasts for about 1.5 months, then I don't think that is very good. I'll keep using it until the fan stops spinning completely but will be looking for a new fan to replace it.
